Climatized Building & Roofing have a dedicated team of roofing experts ready for your roof replacement. We understand that your roof is the most vital component of your house when it comes to protecting your asset from the elements.
There are many benefits of having a metal roof, however like most building products they are susceptible to permanent hail damage, which is a primary cause for us having to replace a roof. Given the adverse effects of a damaged roof, most insurance companies classify hailstorms as an insurable event so an insurance claim is often the most economical way to repair your damaged roof. Call us today on 1300 98 96 60 for a free roof inspection to determine if your roof has been damaged enough to warrant an insurance claim.
Consequences of a hail-damaged metal roof
- Dints left in the roof sheets - Hail dints are different to foot traffic dints as the hailstone leaves a rounded impression on the surface of the roof sheet. Over time, the dints collect water and dust and often start corroding the roof sheet.
- Roof leaks β Roof leaks often develop following hail damage to a roof. It can take a while before leaks develop (same as corrosion) however they often do and cause internal damage.
- Re-sell value β When Itβs time to sell your property, the buyer will typically get a building and pest inspection done. The building inspection will highlight your hail-damaged roof, cause issues with the sale, and generally require a significant price drop for the property.
- Warranty β Bluescope Colorbond can come with a lifetime warranty, however, once your roof is hail damaged it will void the manufactures warranty and affect any future claims.
How do you know if a roof requires a full roof replacement or not?
This needs to be decided by a suitably qualified tradesman following a thorough roof inspection. The Queensland Building & Construction Commission (QBCC) states on its website that a building approval must be lodged if 20% (or more) of your roof is damaged and requires repair. This means a building certifier is required to sign off that the builder has completed the re-roof to current building standards. Building certifiers often require all or some roof battens to be replaced to ensure the new roof will meet current building regulations to withstand future weather events in that particular region.
